FAQ
Ordering
What size should I buy?
If you’re not quite sure which size is right for you, refer to our size guides. They’re located underneath the available sizes for each of our products.
Can I cancel my order?
We completely get it, we change our minds too! While we wish could, once an order is placed, we are unable to alter or cancel it at this time. We hope to have a cancellation window one day in the future.
Should the item(s) not work out, make sure to exchange for a preferred style or return for a refund. As a reminder, domestic return shipping is free.
Shipping & Delivery
How much does shipping cost with ELWD?
Shipping is free on all Australian orders over $99.99. Orders under that ship for a flat $9.95. New Zealand orders ship for a flat $10 AUD.
How long does ELWD shipping take?
Orders placed before noon AEST on business days ship the same day. From dispatch, express shipping takes 1-2 business days to Victoria, 1-3 days to NSW/ACT/SA/QLD metro and most regional areas, and 2-5 days to WA/NT/Tasmania. Standard shipping takes 1-3 days to Victoria, 2-6 days to NSW/ACT/SA/QLD, and 3-10 days to WA/NT/Tasmania.
Does ELWD ship to New Zealand?
Yes. New Zealand orders ship from ELWD's Melbourne warehouse and arrive in 10-15 business days depending on region.
Why does my New Zealand order have an extra charge at checkout?
New Zealand requires overseas retailers to collect 15% GST on orders under NZD $1,000, which is applied automatically at checkout. This replaced the old border-tax system in December 2019 and is separate from — not on top of — any customs charge.
Where does ELWD workwear ship from?
ELWD ships from its warehouse in Victoria, Australia.
Returns, Exchanges & Warranty
What is ELWD's returns policy?
ELWD accepts returns within 28 days of the order date for both Australian and New Zealand orders. Items must be unworn, unused, with tags attached, and in original packaging. Return postage is paid by the customer.
How do I return an ELWD order?
Start a return through the ELWD returns centre at elwd.com.au/return-center using your Order ID and the email address used to place the order.
Can I exchange an item instead of returning it?
Yes, but not through the automatic online returns system — email support@altabrands.com.au with your order details to arrange a size or style exchange.
What happens if I paid with Afterpay?
Afterpay orders can be returned online for a refund under ELWD's standard return conditions. The Afterpay balance adjusts once the refund is processed, which can take up to 5 business days. Afterpay orders can't be exchanged in-store — email support@altabrands.com.au instead.
What if my ELWD item is faulty?
A genuine fault entitles you to an exchange or refund for a major failure, or a repair or exchange for a minor one. — contact support@altabrands.com.au rather than using the standard returns centre.
How long does an ELWD refund take?
Once a return is received, refunds are processed within 25 business days back to the original payment method. Bank processing may add a few extra days.
Fabric & Technology
What is Primatex in ELWD workwear?
Primatex is a reinforced fabric ELWD uses in high-wear areas of its garments — for example, Primatex 100 reinforced front button protection on its work pants — to extend durability where a garment takes the most wear.
What does UPF 50+ mean on ELWD clothing?
UPF 50+ means the fabric blocks over 98% of UV radiation. It's tested against AS/NZS 4399:1999, the Australian and New Zealand standard for sun-protective clothing.
What is Activemax fabric?
Activemax is ELWD's stretch fabric technology, built into garments across the range for freedom of movement during physical trade work.
About ELWD
Who founded ELWD?
Lawrie Pigot and Al Wright founded Elwood Work Division (ELWD) in Melbourne in 2017, after identifying a gap in the market for workwear that combined protection, function, and style.
What does ELWD stand for?
Elwood Work Division.
Is ELWD an Australian company?
Yes. ELWD is designed in Melbourne, Australia, and ships from a Victorian warehouse.
What is ELWD's "Tried and Tested" program?
It's ELWD's internal quality process — every garment is checked against real trade conditions before release, rather than being assessed on appearance alone.
Trade Context
Why do painters wear white or light-coloured workwear?
Light-coloured clothing shows paint marks and stains less than dark clothing, and reflects heat rather than absorbing it — both practical advantages for painters working outdoors or in direct sun.
